JOB PURPOSE Student Welfare Department acts as the advocate for all students' welfare needs (Non-Academic) that affects their university experience.
The Student Welfare Executive supports the team in the smooth and efficient daily operation of the Student Welfare Department that encompasses the following but not limited to pastoral support, administrative functions in relation to Airport Pick up, Student Reporting, Immersion Programme and Insurance related matters.
The Executive is responsible for the effective and efficient management of customer service for all local and international students, ensuring all activities adhere to the government requirements, as well as policies and procedures of Taylor's University, and the provision of high quality and responsive services to international students and other stakeholders. AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Student Welfare
. First point of contact for students experiencing welfare problems and will assist in the handling of student incidents.
. To assist and follow up with the relevant Schools and Departments and Security on the incidents to ensure smooth and effective management of student welfare and discipline. 2. Operations / Administration
. Manage and assist in the logistics planning and arrangement of the Student Airport Pickup Services, Student Reporting and Immersion Programme.
. Assist and support in handling minor issues or offenses and counsel/advise where necessary.
. Follow up on the relevant correspondences and communication with student/immediate families promptly with courtesy and efficiently.
. Assist in the coordinating of workshops, activities, programmes.
.Coordinate the preparation and dissemination of information regarding the student's events and encourage participation and support from both the management and students.
. To conduct periodic surveys as a form of feedback for recognition and improvements.
. Work closely with the International Office to support the International Students Welfare.
. Support other value-added services to the students as and when necessary.
. To be prepared to work flexibly around the Student Welfare's opening hours and seasonal fluctuations in workload.
. To take direct responsibility for own continuous professional development and attend trainings as appropriate to the role. JOB SPECIFICATIONS
MINIMUM ACADEMIC / PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATION 1. Bachelor's degree or its equivalent.
2. Minimum four (4) year of administration or service-oriented experience, preferably in a service oriented or education institution. RELATED EXPERIENCE
Preferably 5 years relevant work experience, preferably in an educational institution with involvement in counselling and International Office related matters. COMPETENCIES (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES)

1. Knowledge and ability in pastoral care and welfare which includes awareness of the support service available, providing supportive advice and guidance, showing empathy and sensitivity and initiating action by involving the relevant people.
2. Comprehensive understanding of the international student experience and the proven ability to apply theories of intercultural communication and cultural differences.
3. Ability to deal with emergencies in a calm and efficient way.
4. Knowledge and skills in using computer software e.g., Microsoft software applications.
5. Excellent written, spoken, cross-cultural and interpersonal communication skills.
6. Possesses a good command of English, Bahasa Malaysia, or one or more languages. Good command of spoken and written Chinese is an added advantage. COMPETENCIES (BEHAVIOURAL)
